Billie Eilish is addressing backlash over a TikTok submit that seems to characteristic resurfaced video of the star.
The 19-year-old singer took to her Instagram Story on Monday, June 21 to apologize for footage that seemingly reveals the star singing alongside to a tune that features a racial slur, along with talking in a stylized voice that has been perceived as mocking individuals of Asian descent. In line with media stories, the tune featured within the footage is “Fish” by Tyler, The Creator, from the rapper’s 2011 album, Goblin.
“i really like you guys, and lots of of you may have been asking me to handle this,” Billie wrote. “and that is one thing that i WANT to handle as a result of i am being labeled one thing that I’m not.”
She continued, “there is a video edit going round of me when i used to be 13 or 14 the place i mouthed a phrase from a tune that on the time i did not know was a derogatory time period and used in opposition to members of the asian neighborhood. i’m appalled and embarrassed and wish to barf that i ever mouthed alongside to that phrase. this tune was the one time i would ever heard that phrase because it was by no means used round me by anybody in my household. no matter my ignorance and age on the time, nothing excuses the very fact is that it was hurtful. and for that i’m sorry.”
